ABOUT ME

Hi! Thanks for stopping by. Let’s get to know each other. I’ll start!

Background

As you’ve probably guessed, my name is Kim. I’ve always been fascinated with cutesy robots, as a design aesthetic and the science fiction of artificial intelligence. That’s where the nickname kim[do]tron comes from.

I was born in a small town in Vietnam, Bao Loc, known for its coffee and tea plantations. The nearest city you might’ve heard of is Da Lat. If you haven’t been, you absolutely must! (Think pine trees and bánh mì stands.) My family immigrated to Pennsylvania when I was five. Imagine the shock of snow coming from a tropical country! We quickly moved on to Texas.

I attended The University of Texas at Austin for my BS in Communications. I majored in Advertising because I always knew I wanted to do something creative in the business world. Trial and error eventually got me into graphic and web design.

After an exciting 13-year career journey and as the realm of design evolved, I returned to school to fill in those gaps. In March 2023, I earned my Master’s in Digital Media Design from Harvard Extension School.

You can see my résumé for my list of skills.

Fun Facts About Me

  1. I’m Vietnamese-American and have lived in Korea, and now Japan.
  2. I like cats, robots, Totoro, amateur astronomy, baking, photography, traveling, gourmet foods, Japanese stationery, grammar, R2-D2, e.e. cummings, green tea, archery and staying in hotels with infinity pools.
  3. I hope to see a stellar nursery one day because that’s me, always shooting for the stars.

///

TL;DR: kim[do]tron because I like robots, and my name is Kim. I come from a multi-faceted background that helps me see many perspectives – a very helpful tool in the world of graphic and web design.

Bonus

Here’s a pic of my cats. They’re my babies. You can follow them on Instagram if you’re a cat enthusiast too!
